My woven wall art began by gathering different yarns, rovings, & lace textiles. I decided on a neutral color way.
Inspiration came from a search on Pinterest. There was so much to look at. As usual I got lost and spent wayyyy too much time in there….LOL
I did not have a loom the size and type I wanted. This was going to be a very organic piece and I was not using traditional weaving methods. A search on looms gave me many options. I decided to purchase a cheap picture at the Dollar store and take it apart leaving just the frame. Then I used a sport weight cotton yarn to warp the loom by winding it over the edges of the frame. The only problem here is the warp does move around and there is not even spacing between the threads. But I did not mind.
It was fun to explore some new weaving techniques and stitches! This was a very rustic organic piece so I didn’t have to worry about following traditional weaving rules. I used several different yarns that I had handspun.
There were some other problems I had to work out along the way. Definitely make sure you leave more room at the top and bottom of the project while on the loom. It takes more length of warp to tie things off then you think. More learning there.
Finished Project
Here is the completed project. If you like it this is the direct link to my Etsy store where it is available for purchase.
I can’t wait to get back to the studio tomorrow. I have another woven wall art piece on the looms. I am really excited about it!
Happy Creating!
