Recently I had a hip replacement and have had to stay flat in bed with my leg elevated. It has been hard not to be creative. So I have had to find other ways of staying creative while recovering from surgery!
Websites & YouTube
The internet is a great place for staying creative while recovering. There are so many websites, youtube videos I can get lost for hours…LOL. I also purchased a few How to’s on weaving. I came across this website and got really hooked! Hello Hydrangea has so much information! She offers classes, supplies and lots of inspiration!
A Pretty Fix is another site that offers free info on techniques for weaving and lots of inspiration to help you stay creative while recovering from surgery.
Reading books and magazines
Moy Mackay is my very favorite artist for felted pictures! She uses wet felting to create her base and then add needle felting and stitching. Her colors are gorgeous! She has written 3 books and I have them all. You can see them on my RESOURCE page.
If you like spinning and playing with fibers Suzy Brown is your gal. Her site Fiberygoodness is full of info and inspiration!!! Right now she is writing a magazine. It has so much good knowledge in it I have yet to read them all. They are only digital at this time but she is working on a printed version in the near future. I like this magazine because it has information about designers, patterns and how to’s. Some advertisement but great content!!!!
Sketching & writing
Another way I am trying to keep creative while recovering from surgery is using my sketch book to document ideas and pictures. I will be laying in bed and suddenly an idea pops into my head. I just reach for my pad or journal and jot it down. The pile of books and magazines is piling up in the corner of the bed…LOL
Journaling by itself is a great way to record thoughts and emotions. I am using a journal covered notebook that I made on my needle felting machine. You might be interested in making one for yourself. Check out this blog post. You could also grab my free tutorial on needle felting and turn it into a cover as well at www.anitahotchkiss.com
I’m so excited the staples come out tomorrow and I hope I will be allowed to sit up longer and work on a project!
